| For our 2009 Sea Fair display in front of the Forestry Museum, we were pleased to present Elsie Paul, a Sliammon Elder, and Betty Wilson, a local SD47 teacher, who shared their knowledge of traditional Sliammon forestry-related culture with hundreds of people who stopped by. Betty and Elsie demonstrated techniques for using the cedar tree to make baskets and other domestic products. In addition, members of the Sliammon archeological project were on hand to show and discuss some of this year's progress. Ron hunter was there to carve axes for the kids, and the museum enjoyed a large attendance of visitors stopping by between the midway and the beach events. Close by to us was an information table from the Historical Museum that featured a fish pond for kids 3-6. The Townsite Heritage Society had a booth in the main display area. |
